A Passing Shower

Track announcer Paul Allen (center) hosts the pre-race analysis of the Claiming Crown card flanked by the Daily Racing Form's Steve Davidowitz (left) and Lucky's Race and Sport's Steve Fierro (right). Fierro is actually my stable mate here at the end of the press box.

The crowd is looking good, though not as large as I expected at this point in the day. We're 13 minutes to post and it does not appear to me to be an overly large crowd for a standard Saturday. That said, the food outlets that have seating appear to be considerably fuller than the average Saturday with the Longshot bar filled up by the folks at Emerald Bay Stables who have a couple in the Emerald, Pursue A Dream and Spider Power. The clubhouse and reserved seating appeared to be near capacity as well. All good signs.

A not so good sign? A brief shower has just passed us by. No long term implications and certainly not enough to affect the racing surface, but enough to get the crowd on the apron scurrying for a bit of cover.
