Well, here we are on the cusp of finalizing GRS #1. There will be 5 of us in the group with percentages ranging from 23% to 15.5%. It is looking more and more likely that we will be claiming a horse out of the Tampa meet which is beginning on December 8. Starting on that date I will be recording each race to review and re-review, pouring over all the past performances and consulting with colleagues and our trainer (more info in a future post) to find a strong, sound horse with overlooked potential that can be highly competitive at Canterbury next summer.
In an ideal world, we would claim a young horse at $12,500, win or place back at $16,000 and with a blessed spring a nice showing at the $20,000 claiming level and then ship up here with the potential to compete in allowance races and - oh dare to dream - a stake or two. Should we get claimed at $16,000 or $20,000 we would have netted a nice profit and the ability to purchase another horse or two for the summer.
Dreaming? Best case scenario? Absolutely. But as I am fond of saying - It has to happen to someone? Why not us?
