Tonight's Show: Diplo, Tabby and How Much is Too Much

I'll be kicking off the weekend tonight on my Blog Talk Radio show at 9 PM Central Time: Diplo is scheduled to make his third start in 21 days on Friday and Tabby Lane is entered in her first race for us on Saturday on Tampa Bay Derby Day. I'll share some brief previews of their respective races, how we came to claim Tabby Lane and I'll touch base on just how often should a thoroughbred racehorse race.

Any thoughts on that last subject? Leave me a comment, drop me a line (ted@grevelisracing.com) or listen to the Show live this evening. It's also available for download through iTunes shortly after the conclusion of the half hour.

I think you have to let the horse tell you when he's ready to run again. I once had a two-year-old we ran 17 times for $25,000 or more. We finally turned out her out just because we couldn't stand it anymore, and when we brought her back, someone claimed her the first time we dropped her in for a tag because we'd already invested in the vacation for them. I bought that mare back as a broodmare and she's still sound as a dollar. But then I've also had four-year-olds that needed a break after three starts. Some horses need more work than others, and some can take a lot more racing.
