Fizzy Pop goes for us in the 7th race at Canterbury Park tonight. The 7th is a Starter Allowance field that has started for a claiming price of $10,000 or less in 2007 - 2008. Here is my look at the 7 horse field.
1 Secret Fever - A Tampa invader who headed his last field of $25,000 claimers into the stretch but faded to third. Good inside speed.
2 Top Authority - This horse scored an impressive win at the $7500 claiming level opening weekend, but may be against too tough here.
3 John Hennessy - First off the claim for Justin Evans (25% first off) after picking up this gelding for $20,000 at Turf Paradise. This horse has won against better, so should be a factor - also good early speed.
4 Awesome Attitude - The horse to beat in this field. He has the best Beyers, has beat $32,000 claimers and is making his local debut for powerhouse Jamie Ness. Probably off at 3-5.
5 Best Game in Town - Was competitive in lower level allowance races in Phoenix. Likes to come off the pace, but has only won at much lower.
6 Solid Trip - Makes his '08 debut here after winning a few $10,000 claiming races in Chicago.
7 Fizzy Pop - Our Fiz has been training like a monster, but they don't run the races in the mornings. He belongs here, but can he get that racing luck that he's been missing?
This is a race that certainly drew difficult, but Fiz has a fighting chance. We'll know more after the 7th race is run!! Good luck to all the partners in this race and also to the Star of the North partners who have Somerset Sam (GRS owns 10% of Sam) going in a MSW tonight in the 5th.
